She then moved to New Zealand in the mid-nineties, where she taught occupational therapy students and was an elected member on the national licensing board for occupational therapists. Fion and her family then moved to the United States and have been working with young children who struggle to regulate their body systems and find challenges participating in daily routines.
SESSION DESCRIPTION
Challenging Behaviors - Solution Focused Problem Solving Workshop
This interactive session explores a solution-focused approach to supporting children who exhibit challenging behaviors. Solution-focused practices recognize that children—and the adults who support them—are inherently resourceful, capable, and creative. When we facilitate collaborative, solution-focused groups, we tap into these strengths, opening the door for more innovative ideas and more effective outcomes. By intentionally creating a positive, supportive space, we empower teams to use their collective creativity to reduce challenging behaviors and promote meaningful growth.
Participants will learn:
To explore reasons for the rise in behaviors in the classroom setting.
Recognize sources of anxiety in young children.
Understand how to access creative solutions.
Strategies to encourage creative cooperation and collaboration.
Test out group facilitation skills using the solution circle process.
Target audience and experience level: Beginner - Teachers and all Therapists in school settings
*Sessions are open to all registrants regardless of experience level or roles.
